When WEDDINGBELLS Magazine wanted to cover music in weddings, they chose Quattro. The following excerpts appear in an article by Susan Williamson, in the Spring/Summer 2003 issue, beginning on page 402H.

LIVE MUSIC is central to most important celebrations in life -- try imagining an event without it. "Nothing gives us a sense of occasion the way live music does," says violinist Bill Chambers, whose string quartet, Quattro, has played at dozens of weddings over the last 15 years. ...

Chambers believes there's an intuitive aspect to playing. "You have to read the crowd," he notes, adding he's found a string quartet works well with a diverse audience. "It's ideal for a situation involving different cultures, ages and interests -- especially when people are meeting for the first time." Mississauga based Quattro plays at everything from outdoor venues to formal affairs. The group--two violins, a cellist and a viola player--usually performs at the service, while photos are being taken and during dinner.

"We do waltzes, tangos and rumbas, and sometimes people spontaneously dance," Chambers divulges. ...

Over the years, Quattro has perfected a vast repertoire of pop and show tunes. In addition to Bach and Mozart, couples ask for music by composers and singers such as Gershwin, Burt Bacharach, Celine Dion and Paul McCartney. Popular tunes include "Over the Rainbow" and "My Funny Valentine." Pachelbel's "Canon," the recessional playing when Steve Martin walked down the aisle with his daughter in Father of the Bride, is also a favourite. Recently, the quartet performed "Once in Love With Amy," from a 1948 musical, as a tribute to the bride. ...

Whatever your budget, live music provides everyone at the celebration with choices. You and your guests can talk to each other, dance, or just enjoy listening...
